CORONATION CELEBRATIONS.

At a meeting of citizens to night it was resolved to celebrate Coronation Day with a united religious service, military display, roasting of a bullock, illuminations, and fireworks in the evening. The Maoris will be invited to take part, and the children will bo presented with mementoes of the occasion. Several onks will also be planted, and bonfires on tho neighboring hills will probably bo arranged for. The Silver Jubileo of the borough will bo celebrated on Coronation Day by laying tho foundation stone of a drinking fountain. ASHBURTON’S ARRANGEMENTS.

committee of leading citizens, Friendly Society members, volunteers and officers was appointed to draft a programme. The meeting recommended the committee to have fireworks, plant oaks in the Domain, and invite the children from all

country schools to attend ; also to ask the Borough Council to provide funds up to £IOO.
