By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Melbourne, May 22.

The Federal Government, in reply to a letter from the Eastern Extension Cable Company, agreed to a tentative agreement in regard to the extension of rates to the places named. Mr Deakin explains that he has some doubt whether the Government is pledged to do this under the Berne Convention, but he thought it better to comply with the obvious spirit of the Convention.
