PANIC AT FORT DE FRANCE. LAVA IN GREATER VOLUME. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright New York, May 21. A terrible panic occurred at Fort do France. Twenty thousand people ran about distracted, kneeling and praying in the streets. Many fled to Guadeloupe. Lava from Mount Pelee is flsuing in greater volume. The eruption has quite overwhelmed the Grand Riviere. The inhabitants of the island are still in the greatest danger, since all moans of transportation have been destroyed.
SOUFRIERE AGAIN ACTIVE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright New York, May 22. Tho loss in property, crops, and livo stock at St. Vincent amounts to a quarter of a million. Soufriere is again active. There were eruptions on Sunday and Monday. The adjoining districts trembled. The shocks were felt at Kingstown. A dense cloud overhangs the island. Business is at a standstill, A rumor that the extinct crater on Eutram mountain, six miles from Kingstown, is active, has increased the alarm.
