The D.J.C. Winter Meeting commenced to-day in beautifnl weather. The attendance was only fair. The course was soft and heavy. The sum of £3507 was put through, as against £4847 last year. The results were :

First Hurdles : Huku 1, Dormant 2, Roller 3. Five others ran. Silver Maid and Senior Wrangler fell. Won by seven lengths. Time 3.45 3-5, divs. £1 12s and £1 10s (10s tickets). Hack Handicap : Khaki 1, First Yseult 2, Red Peony 3. Three others ran. Won by a nose after an exciting finish, somo distance separating second, third, and fourth. Timo 1.26 1-5, divs. .£l2 18s and £6 9s.

Birthday Handicap : Canteen 1, Lady Lillian 2, Terrapin 3. Pampero, Jupiter, Transport, and Glenelg also started. Won by a good two lengths. Time 2.22, divs. £3 16s and £l6. Maiden Plate : Clandburn 1, Kotokuto 2, Gun Shot 3. Four others ran. Won by a long neck. Time 1.55 1-5, divs. £1 12s and 16s.

Second Winter Welter : Ardnarff 1, First Light 2, Lapidary 3. Two others ran. Won by four lengths. Time 1.40, div. £2 Bs.

Selling Race : Kotokoto 1, Gold King 2, Vandyke 3. Won by a length and a half. Time 1.37 1-5, divs. £2 6s and £1 2s.

Tradesmen’s Handicap : Windwhistle 1, Red Gauntlet 2, Donna Ro;a 3. Goldspur also ran. Won by throe lengths. Time 1.21 15, div. £3 6s.

Wellington, last night. There was fine weather for the second day of the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting. Tickets on all races wore 10s. The sum of £922 was put through the machine, making a total of £1724 for the meeting. The results were : Autumn Handicap : Lady Brook 1, King George 2, Czarina 3. Time 6.8, divs. £2 5s and £1 4s.

Petcno Handicap : Perewiti 1, B.J.N. 2. Scratched : Steve Hart, King George. Black Rose finished first, but was disqualified for galloping. Time 4.16, divs. £2 3s and £1 Bs.

Pony Handicap : Shamrock 1, Pukiore 2, Winnie 3. Boreas was scratched. Time 1.24, div. £1 Is. Hutt Handicap : Czarina 1, Ivywood 2, Black Child 3. Scratched : Leda and Lady Retford. Time 5.36, divs. £2 14s and £6 4s. „

Provincial Handicap : Zinska 1, Macaroni 2, The Painter 3. Scratched: Queen Ada and Steve Hart. Time 5.33, divs. £1 and 18s.

On board the Frisco’ steamer arc 2600 tons of cargo for New Zealand, mostly flour. Chaff has been selling at £l2 per ton at Goondiwindi, near Moree, on tlie Queensland border.
