SHIPPING COMBINE.
A PATRIOTIC WOMAN
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright London, May 20. It is affirmed at Belfast that, as the result of an interview between the Right Hon. W. J. Pirrie, chairman of Hariand and Wolffe, and Messrs Chamberlain and Balfour, the White Star line will not cease to exist; that merely a transference of shares takes place. Mr Pierpont Morgan’s syndicate will nominate seven British members, and the combination will register the Whitd Star vessels in their uames under the English Companies Act. Present and future ships will thus bo at the disposal of the Government, and the vessels will retain the English flag.
A meeting of White Star shareholders almost unanimously approved of the sale. It is understood that Mrs T. H. Ismay strongly opposed the sale on patriotic grounds.
