SAN FRANCISCO, May 1
Q. itenango, Guatemala, was completely destroyed by an earthquake on April IS. It is believed that five hundred people were killed. Large districts were devastated. Amatalin, formerly a town of ten thousand inhabitants., exists no more as a town.
The destruction extended one hundred miles along the western part of the Republic.
There have been serious seismic disturbances along the Cordilleras, affecting tlie towns and villages between Quesaltenango, tlie second city of Guatemala. and Amatilan'. . Tiiere were slight disturbances m Guatemala City, hut no disasters.
It is estimated that one million dollars damage was done to property in Bapacliula, a Mexican town near the Guatemalan frontier. Quesaltenango was a handsomely-built- and well-paved city, with a richly decorated Cathedral and magnificent- City Hall.
