On the day the Coronation Committee ippointed by the citizens decided to ask the clergymen of the City to hold a united service on Coronation Day trouble began to simmer. The reply, read by the Rabbi, stated that, as Bishop Wallis gathered, it was intended to make the service of a religious, but not distinctly of a Christian character, he did not think he ought to take part in it. The Rev. Sprott (St. Paul’s) had also written to the Rabbi, excusing himself from taking part, is he would be exceptionally busy.
