A RAILWAY SMASH.
TRUCKS SOMERSAULT, WITH POWDER WAGGON ON TOR. By Telegraph—Press Association. Oarnaru, last night. A railway accident occurred about four miles south of Oarnaru this morning. A truck on the night goods train got off the rails approaching the bridge over the Waireka stream. It trailed across and entering a cutting buried itself into the clay, bringing the following trucks a somorsault over it ; another on top of that ono collided behind, and anothei somersaulted, with a powder waggon piled on top of all. Three casks of gun powder and five casks of cartridges were in the train. Twelve trucks derailed in all. Some of them were damaged beyond repair, and the permanent way cut up, rails bent, etc. All through traffic was suspended and the train delayed over an hour on account of transhipment being necessary every time. It is expected to restore the connection at midday tomorrow. No one was hurt, though one engine was slightly damaged. A steam crane had to be sent from Dunedin to lift the debris away.
