MR CARROLL’S TOUR.

(Special to Times. ) Auckland, last night.

The Hon. J. Carroll, Native Minister, was in attendance to-day on departmental business. Since tho gathering at Rotorua, when His Excellency the Governor presented the flag to. the Arawas, Mr Carroll has visited Tauranga, Whakatane, and Matata, meeting the natives at each place and explaining to them the provisions of the Maori Lands Administration Act. Mr Carroll was accompanied by Judges Scannell and Gill, President and European member of the Wairiki Maori Lands Council, which held meetings at Tauranga, Whakatane, and Rotorua. The Minister found the Maori Councils Act in full operation, and working well. The Maoris have named a number of blocks in various districts which they propose handing over to the Maori Land Council, to be dealt with under the Maori Lands Administration Act. It is Mr Carroll’s intention to remain in Auckland for a few days, but he will leave for Waikato to attend the native meeting on Monday next.
