There was further rain during the night and the earlier part of tho morn? - ing, but tho weather has now cleared sufficiently to allow of tho resumption of play. The not outs, Trumper and Hill, continued their innings. After adding a single run to his overnight score, Hill was smartly run out, Hayes making a quick return from third man. Two wickots for 93, Trumper 52. Gregory came next, and play became more lively, Trumper displaying fine driving powers. The bowling; was of a harmless character, and the; wicket, which had not yet bcoome difficult, favored fast scoring. At 109, towards which Trumper contributed 81 and Gregory 32, Dawson replaced Richardson, who had bowled hitherto. A separation came at 182, Abel catching Gregory at point off Hayward. Tho partnership yielded 89 in 65 minutes’ play. Throe for 182, Trumper 97. Darling, filled tho vacancy, and assisted Trumper to pass the century, when the young Sydney player was caught by Hayes low down in tho slips off a bumping ball from Hayward. He played a good innings, marred by tWo chances. Noble joined his captain. At the luncheon adjournment the scoro stood at four wickets for 208, Darling 13, Noble 4. On resuming, Baker took the place ot Bush in the field, the latter suffering from a sore throat. Darling increased the score' by 19, when he was dismissed by a nice l catch by Brockwell at long-off from Hayward. Five for 218. The weather is still dull and ohecrless,, and bitterly cold. Armstrong partnered Noble. With the scoro at 239 rain setin. Tho following are the additional scores: Hill, run out 33' Gregory, c Abel, b Hayward 38 Trumper, c Hayes, b Hayward ... 101 Darling, e Brockwell, b Hayward ... 19 Noble, not out 18 ; Armstrong, not out 11 Play was resumed after a delay of an hour. His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales was present. The Australians lost five wickets for 226. Noble, not out 44 Armstrong, not out 41 Sundries 12. Noble missed being caught and bowled by Richardson when he had scored 14, Eighty runs were knocked up in the last hour. The innings was declared closed. Bowling analysis: Richardson one for 89, Dawson nil for 49, Hayward three for 94, Lockwood nil for 3, Brockwell nil for 37, Jephson nil for 12. Surrey, in their first innings, have no wickets down for 18 ; Abel 13 and Baker 8. Stumps were then drawn.
