London, May 11, At the wool sales, crossbreds are firm, and prices are unchanged ; merinos are hardening.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The following cable has been received by the Agent-General, dated London, 10th:—“The mutton market is very firm. The average price of Canterbury is 4 1-Sd ; Dunedin, Southland, and Wellington jVleat'Export Company, 4d ; other North Island, 3 7-Bd, for shipment now arriving. There has been a very small shortage in all sources against last year; 630,000 have arrived since January Ist. Lamb is quiet, and there is no chance of prices improving. The weather lately has been very unfavorable to sale. The increase in all sources against last year has been 337,000. Since January Ist, River Plate increased by 70,000. Beef is firm; New Zealand hinds 5 3 8(3, fores 4ijd. Transactions in butter are very limited, the market being steady at 103 s. Cheese is very firm at 595. Hemp is dull at T 37. August shipments are at T 32. There has been no alteration in cocksfoot seed since last week.
