PERSONAL.
Mr A. F. Kennedy left for the South last evening. Mr Miller, Inspector of Post Offices, is at present visiting this district.
Canon Banks Smith, of Hobart, the last of the Imperial chaplains, died on April 25, aged 83 years.
Mr and Mrs DeLautour returned from Wellington by the Elingamite yesterday. Mr Reginald Brett, who is conducting explorations for oil in this district, left for Auckland yesterday en route for Greymouth, where he is prosecuting similar operations.
Mr F. Parker left for the South by the Tarawera last evening. Mr W. L. Rees returned to Gisborne yesterday. Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., and Mr L. Rees leave for Wairoa to day to attend the quarterly sittings of the court at that place.
The Minister for Lands intends to visit the Levin district in the course of a day or two in order to inspect the proposed sites for £hp new dairy school to be established there.
Mr R. T. Bell, who has bad practical experience as aflaxtniller in the Manawatu has been permanently appointed assistant to Mr Fulton, the Government bemp grader for the Wellington, Hawke’s Bay, Canterbury, Nelson, ; and Marlborough districts. He has been assisting Mr Fulton for some time past, ' •
