The Boveric’s tail shaft broke off short at th? stern tube, and the propeller was lost. Eight days were allowed to elapse in tiie hope of receiving assistance ; then it was decided to send to Fremantle. The crew in the whaleboat consisted of Dayman, chief officer ; McCarthy, second officer ; Dry and Timmins, seamen.
For eight days they experienced light wind, anil then a succession of gales for the remaining time. They suffered but little discomfort, getting an occasional wetting. Mr Bay man lias little fear of the Bovetic running short of provis’ons. The. Boverie is a steel screw steamer of 3987 gross and 2578 nett tonnage, iielonging to the Boverie Steamship Company (A. Weir and Co.), of Glasgow. The vessel was- built in 1898 hy Messrs Russell and Co., of the same city, her dimensions being : Length, 345.2 ft ; beam, 49.8 ft ; the moulded depth, 20.5 ft. ; and draught 17.9 ft.
