Eight days were allowed to elapse in tiie hope of receiving assistance ; then it was decided to send to Fremantle. The crew in the whaleboat consisted of Dayman, chief officer ; McCarthy, second officer ; Dry and Timmins, seamen.

Mr Bay man lias little fear of the Bovetic running short of provis’ons. The. Boverie is a steel screw steamer of 3987 gross and 2578 nett tonnage, iielonging to the Boverie Steamship Company (A. Weir and Co.), of Glasgow. The vessel was- built in 1898 hy Messrs Russell and Co., of the same city, her dimensions being : Length, 345.2 ft ; beam, 49.8 ft ; the moulded depth, 20.5 ft. ; and draught 17.9 ft.
