The larger force of State commandos, especially that under De la Bey, is most irreconcilable. An armored train was derailed near Pretoria. One officer and ten soldiers were killed. The commandant of the Boers was killed while fighting at Ookiep. London, May 9. Thirteen additional prisoners were captured in the Orange sweep. Among the prisoners taken were thirty-four of Beyer's commando.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. The Governor has been advised as follows from South Africa : —“ Dangerously ill, May 4th, at Potchefstroom : Patrick Lee an! William Grant, New Zealand Mounted Infantry, both from injuries.” In reply to inquiries, Major Pilcher Capetown, cables that Corporal Urwiu, of Wellington (Sixth Contingent), is now convalescent. The condition of Sergeant Walter Miller, Wellington, is unchanged. Lieutenant Laseelles, Napier, is slightly improved. Lieutenant Coiledgo's condition is improving. Trooper Hawes has been discharged from the hospital well, and Trooper Whittle, of Makuri, is convalescent.
