Kia-Ora Butter Factory.

The tests for the week ending Apri' 28th are as follows :

A curious case of several different people identifying a corpse and being mistaken occurred in London the other week and though rare similar cases are not by any m?ans unknown. In Paris some time ago a little boy recognised a corpse as that of his school companion, Filbert Chevandretf A woman came next, who exclaimed, “Heavens, it is my child !” examined the clothing, pointed out a scar on the forehead, and retired weeping. Her bro-ther-in-law was positive it was the little Filbert, and after him half a dozen neighbours ail identified him, among them being the boy’s schoolmaster, who recognised the medal he wore. Nevertheless, the mother, brother-in-law, schoolmaster and neighbours were all absolutely mistaken, for it was afterwards conclusively proved that the boy belonged to Bordeaux, was murdered there, and had been conveyed to Paris by a carrying company. What the cause is of this collective illusion ■it 'is difficult to say. It may be due to a process analogous to suggestion in hypnotism, or to some obscure kind of mental action—that sort of unreasoning unanimity which seizes on crowds for example—but in any case it seems more than a mere coincidence. Mamma : Willie, shut that window screen. You're letting in all the flies. Willie : Well, you’ve got to let some of them in ; ’cause if you don’t let 'em in, how are they, going'to get on .the fly paper'?
