There was bad weather for the second day’s races. Lain fell fairly heavily all morning, and there was a regular downpour in the afternoon, the attendance thus being greatly interfered with. The going was very heavy. The results were : Trial Handicap : Amadillo 1, Himalaya 2, Belle Cole 8. Scratched—Opaeae and The Whistler. Himalaya held pride of place for over four furlongs, with Amadillo and Belle Cole handy. At the home turn Amadillo tackled her, and a fine race resulted in a win for the colt by a short half a length, Belle Cole, who got jammed, running a fair third. Time 1.6, tote 656, diva. £2 16s and £2 2s 6d.

Stewards Handicap : Cave 1, Rita 2, Ontario 3. Scratched —Recoil, Fair Jess, Le Vent. Rita was in a good position right though, and rounding the home bend was acclaimed the winner, but Cave came fast on the outside, where the going was better, and after a sharp struggle secured first place by a neck. Time 1.51, tote 691, divs. ill 19s and £1 17s. Borough Handicap: King Edward 1, Loch Erin 2, Moturoa 3. Bowman was scratched. Lady Bell and Marianthus sot the pace for five furlongs, when Tawara made an effort, but fell back beaten. Marianthus closed up, and King Edward assumed command, leading into the straight, where Loch Erin, who got a bad start, came at him. King Edward had a bit in hand, however, and won by a length. Time 1.37 ; on totalisator 690 ; divs., £5 and .£1 4s.

Handicap Hack Hurdles : Great Scott 1, Mangatera 2, Taranaki 3. Tukurangi and Moreen were scratched. Mangatera made the running for most of the distance, with Groat Scott waiting for striking time. In the straight, the latter put in a say, and, wearing the grey down, won by a clear length. Clarion came a cropper at the first jump. Time 3.6 4-5 ; divs., £3 9s 6d and £4 2s.

Opeke Handicap : Recoil 1, Rita 2, Kidbrook 3. All started. Laertes and Mazona led for four furlongs, where tho field closed up and ran well together into the straight, a good fight ending in a victory for Recoil by half a length. Time 1.24 1-5, totalisator 669, divs. £2 los and £2 8s 6d. Manaia Handicap : Moturoa 1, Crusoe 2, King Edward 3. Marianthus was scratched. Moturoa led from start to finish, and stalling off a determined challenge from Crusoe in the straight, won by three parts of a length. Time 2.8 4-5, totalisator 728, divs. £ll 8s 6tl and 11s. Ngamutu Handicap : Anchorite 1, Flying Shell 2, Governess 3. Sandy, Cave, King Edward, Katriona, Mazona, Siandra were scratched. Fine race, the finish being fought out with determination. Anchorite won by half a length. Time 1.25, totalisator 387, divs. £4 and £1 16s. Tho totalisator put through £4474, as against £4948 10s for the second day of last year.
