CINQUEVALLI.

THE KING OF ENTERTAINERS,

It is announced through our advertisiug columns that on Monday and Tuesday ; next the well-known Australian entrepreneur Mr Harry Rickards will introduce to the Gisborne public bis No. 1 compan--| of vaudeville stars. This is indeed ih I most powerful combination of vaudeville * artists that has ever been seen in this colony. It is headed by the greatest living juggler, Mr Paul Cinquevalli. Mr Cinquevaili is so well known by everybody in all parts of the world that it would be super- • fluous to comment at this stage upon his capabilities ; suffice it to say thiit he is acknowledged to be the king of jugglers, and that his feats border upon the marvellous.

The Napier Herald to hand yesterday states “ Napier received Mr Harry Rickards’ Company with fervent, demonstrative enthusiasm. An overflowing house greeted them on their first appeal? ance in New Zealand, an audience whose closest attention was enchained from the rise of the curtain. For three hours novelty upon novelty was presented in such profusion that wnen the end came everyone was bewildered by the wealth of entertainment that had been placed before them. It is unquestionably a great show, the most attractive of its kind that has ever visited these shores. It would be a big show without Paul Cinquevalli ; with him included the programme is of really exceptional merit. It is only on rare occasions that a combination of such strength is brought this way. At such times it is gratifying to note that theatrego wers can rise to the oocaSion. Sir Rickards’ representatives on Saturday night must have been undoubtedly' convinced that the enterpise in bringing the company to this colony was fittingly recognised by the first audience of the tour, which may assuredly be taken as a happy augury of a highly'successful New Zealand visit. The feats of Cinquevalli, most celebrated of equilibrists, occasioned' the deepest interest and sensation. Great expectations had been built up of his performances ; none bargained for what they actually saw. He is a marvel. The laws of gravitation seem completely at his command. He holds you spellbound and hi »kest admiration whilst he accomplishes tricks of the most difficult and daring nature, done with the utmost grace and perfection. At the finish he beams complacently on the audience whilst all the time they may be imagining that he has either swallowed a billiard ball or dislocated his neck by a 48 pound cannon shot. Nothing like his work has ever been seen in this colony ; it is sensational in every phase, and on Saturday night he roused the people to a pitch of excitement rarely witnessed within the wall of the Theatre. It is unnecessary to specify hia various feats of juggling. Those who miss them miss a genius,"
