NELSON FOLLOWS GISBORNE’S LEAD.

(Per Press Associate, m) NELSON, last n’ght. At the meeting of the Harbor Board

to-day, Captain Cox, Harbormaster, reported that the two days ground swell last week caused a shallowing of one foot nine inches just clear of the leading lights at the approach to harbor ; also that the toe of the bar had advanced 15 feet, the navigable channel being rendered less than 300 feet. Members of the Board, after hearing the report, evinced a desire to lose no

time *in accepting tenders for building a dredge in order t)&t the'harbor improvement wprks may be pushed on as quickly as possible. Three tender;, were received, and it was resolved to accept that of the Dunedin Engineer ing Company, Ltd., subject to conditions which will be conveyed to the tenderers. The price has not transpired.
