SUPREME COURT. By Tolegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. At tho Supreme Court Robert Maybery was found guilty of robbery, and was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. Haru Haremata and Erie Watkins, who pleaded guilty to charges of theft and false pretences respectively, were admitted to probation. Thos. O’Connor was acquitted on a charge of stealing a purse.

OFF TO SOUTH AFRICA. About 150 permits have been issued by the Colonial Secretary Department to persons going to South Africa. LOST AT SEA. An enquiry was commenced to-day into the circumstances surrounding the death of a seaman named Plunkett, who was knocked overboard from the foreyard of the steamer ICumara by the flapping of a sail on the night of tho 18th March, while on a voyage from Port - Elizabeth to Auckland. The evidence went to show that the officer of the watch had left the bridge to supervise the setting of the sail, and that from 15 to 30 minutes elapsed before a boat was lowered from the vessel. A lifebuoy had been thrown overboard, but the patent light was not attached to it. No boat drill had taken place on the vessel at any time. The inquiry was adjourned to the 12th inst.
