GISBORNE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
1 ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. The Gisborne School Committee met , after the meeting of householders had concluded on Monday evening, all members t excepting Mr D. M. Orr being present. : Mr G. Humphreys proposed that Mr Bright should take the chair, Mr Hookey ; seconding. Mr Bright stated that the first business was the election of Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Hookey proposed that Mr Bright should be Chairman. Mr Humphreys seconded tho motion and pointed out that Mr Bright had previously been on tho committee and was accustomed to the work. Mr Brown proposed Mr Graham as Chairman, Mr Sweet seconding. A vote was then taken, and resulted in a draw, there being four votes for each candidate. The Chairman : This is an unfortunate position. If Mr Orr were here he could decide it. Mr Humphreys: You must give the casting vote. The Chairman : I do not care to exercise it. Mr Graham : I will withdraw in your favor, Mr Bright. Mr Sweet: If you decide to do that I suppose we cannot object. Mr Bright: It does not really matter much who is Chairman. We must all work together. Mr Sweet: It will bo very hard if we do not. The meeting allowed Mr Graham to withdraw, and Mr Bright was elected Chairman. Mr Quigley was re appointed secretary. Mr Humphreys suggested that the remuneration should be increased to £2O per year, but the Chairman said that new members should bo allowed an opportunity to look into the finances before committing thomselves to increased expenditure.
It was decided that tho first Friday in each month should bo the night of meeting.
