[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Auckland, laßfc night. During the year ending March 151st. the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board spent £5020 in outdoor relief. Of this amount, £1 207 was absorbed in providing rations in Auckland City and suburbs, £8 in Waitemata County, £196 in Eden, and £llO in Manakau County.
Tho annual meetings for tho election of school committees passed off quietly tonight. The only matter of special genera! interest was a resolution carried by tho Parnoll Committee, urging Government to tako a plobiscito on tho question of Bible reading in schools. Christchurch, last night.
At a meeting of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night, it was stated that tho subscriptions towards sending Simpson and Smith to England amounted to £lB7. Some clubs which had promised subscriptions had not so far sont them, but when theso wero paid tho balanco required, about £35, would be provided for. The Chairman of tho Harbor Board to-day received a telegram from Sir Joseph'Ward that tho Cabinet had agreed to placo on tho Estimates a sum of £IOOO towards tho fund for sending a relief ship in connection with tho Discovery Antarctic expedition. Invorcargill, last night. Tho weather here is now more settled, and farmers are going night and day leading in. New Plymouth, last night. Tho Chamber of Commerco has appointed a deputation to wait on tho Harbor Board to nrge that steps be taken to approach tho Government with a view to tho employment of prison labor on harbor extension. Moro than the usual interest was shown in connection with tho householders’ meetings for tho school committee elections. The town committee resolved that tho system of administering educational matters in the colony was unsatisfactory, and that school boards oleeted by popular vote should take tho placo of education boards and committees. Timaru, last night. The Timaru householders passed a resolution to be sent to tho Minister, the Board of Education, and member for the district that tho advantages of free secondary education possessed by children in towns whore district high schools exist bo provided also for Timaru, preferably in the samo way. A second resolution was adopted recommending the committee to continue their efforts to have the sohool made a district high school.
