in the House of Commons Mr Arnold Forster stated in connection, with the shipping combine that the Admiralty Committee were enquiring into the question of Government subsidies to various steamship lines. Meanwhile, arrangements were being made precluding the possibility of the transfer of hired White Star liners to a foreign flag without the Admiralty’s consent during the current agreement, ending in 1905.
The Daily Express states Morgan’s combine is trying to fix emigration rates, seeking to prevent Canadian emigration. The Department is supplying Elder, Dempster and Co. with information relating to prospective emigrants, and threatens to nuy control of the Canadian Pacific line. The Daily Mail states that Morgan’s combine is introducing into Congress a new Shipping Bill, permitting Ameri-can-owned vessels to he uuilt abroad and brought under the flag-
