ST. MATTHEW’S CHURCH,

The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of St. Matthew’s new church will bo carried out to morrow by the Governor. The ceremony will be performed with full Masonic honors, and a choir of about 200 voices will assist in the singing. Tho Primate and clergy from Auckland and its vicinity will be present. There is about .£30,000 in the hands of tho trustees for the erection of the building.
CHARGES AGAINST LANDS OFFICERS. Hearing of the charges brought against officers in connection with the Lands Department by Mr McKnight has been concluded by Mr T. Hutchinson, S.M., who sat as a Royal Commission. A number of witnesses were examined in Dargaville. The Commissioner will forward a report to the Government. A SUDDEN DEATH.
John William Binns, of Ponsonby, died this morning. Deceased retired to rest on the previous ovaning, complaining of pains in the head, and he grew gradually worse and died before the arrival of medical aid, which had been summoned. GOVERNOR AND PARTY.
The Governor and party leave Auckland on Monday next on a week’s trip in the train, visiting Cambridge, Rotorua, and other places. The Governor will also have a look at the work on the Main Trunk line.
