ODDFELLOWS.
[By Telegrapn— Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The first meeting of the Movable Committee of the New Zealand branch of the Manchester Unity Independent Order of Oddfellows was concluded on Saturday. Consideration of draft rules was finished, numerous amendments, mostly in regard to the details of the working, were made. A long discussion took place upon the question of the contribution of benefits. A scale was passed which will be the standard for contributions payable by future members of the society. It was •intimated that the scale provided for adequate contributions, and that districts, on furnishing particulars of the benefits which they promised, would be supplied with tables of contributions based on the standard. A proposal to have a uniform scale of benefits for the society was lost. It was decided that districts be allowed to pay such benefits in such amounts as they deemed advisable. The question of uniformity of benefits will come up at the next meeting of the Movable Committee in two years’ time. The rules and tables as amended were adopted as those of the braoch. The election of officers resulted as follows :—Treasurer, Bro. G. E. Godher, Wellington ; Directors : Bros. Marshall (Ashley), Batchelor (Nelson), Paterson (Ashburton), Bellringer (New Plymouth), Clark (Auckland), and Fielder (Napier) ; Trustees : Bros. Leslie (Wellington), Thomas (Nelson), and Bainber (Wanganui) ; Auditors : Bros. A. Guise (Wellington), S. Watson (Palmerston North), and R. M. Othes (Petone). It was decided that the next meeting of the Movable Committee be held at Auckland on the second Tuesday in May, 1900. Bro. Hursthouse (Motueka) was elected as Parliamentary agent.
