The Town Clock.
(To the Editor of the Times.)
Sik,—There has been a lot ot discussion about starting a fund for the purpose of getting a clock for the post-office tower, but so far nothing has been done. Would it not be as well that a small committee were appointed, and a start made. An excellent opportunity is presented on -Monday next by the arrival of the ShawSnvill Co.’s steamer Athenic. It would be very easy to charter the Waihi and make several excursions, say one in the morning, two in the afternoon, and two in the evening. A charge of two shillings could be made, and I believe hundreds would be induced to go. There is also the sum of thirty pounds lying to the credit of the Peace Celebration fund which might be devoted to the Clock fund. What I want to see is a fine set of chimes in the tower, and it only requires a few of us to put our shoulder to the wheel to achieve this object. In the meantime let us have the Waihi and the excursions to the Athenic. —I am, etc., J.E.
