THE EXPORT DUTY.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. Mr Bagnell, the well-known timber merchant, in view of the action of Australia in admitting white and kauri pine free, advocates the removal of the New Zealand export duty on timber, especially the duty on kauri flitches, which he says will interfere with the exports of flitches to the United Kingdom. There are now two ships in Kaipara harbor loading flitches for the United Kingdom. They will carry a million and a-half feet between them, and at 2s per 100 ft the export duty on two shipments would be £ISOO.
