H.B. EDUCATION BOARD.

GISBORNE MATTERS,

(Special to Times.) NAPIER, last night. At Uie Board of Education meeting .to-dav, in connection with the objection by the Gisborne .teacher that the residence offered to him was too small and old and inconvenient, it .was decided lo ask the Department for authority .to sell the building. Morere’s application for a shelter shed was held over until October.

Ormond : Miss Ingleton’s resignation was accepted, Wairoa’s complaint that a pupil had' not been advanced a standard was referred to the Inspector for his report. Eraser town : Tlie resignation of Mr Charles was accepted. The Chairman reported ' .that the various communications lo the Department relative to the Gisborne District High School scholarships, salaries of teachers affected by the new regulations, and other matters, remained unanswered. He suggested that some general complaint might be made as to this neglect. Mr McLernon proposed to move that the sum ol £65 earned by Gisborne District Pligli School as capitation, should be placed to the credit of that institution, but the Chairman said it would be illegal to adopt such a course until a reply was received from the Department. On the motion of Captain Russell it was resolved, “ That an urgent remonstrance he forwarded to the Minister for Education, setting out that funds available to Hawke’s Bay Education Board for school buildings, the acquisition of lands for playgrounds, and the erection of teachers’ residences are absolutely insufficient, and that as a consequence the efforts of Die Board to properly administer the Education Act IDO 1 are seriously hampered, ami that apparently systematic delay ;n answering enquiries made to the Department are needlessly and vexatiously delaying the business of the Board."
