A RAILWAY DISASTER.
THIRTEEN OF THE EIGHTH CONTINGENT KILLED. MANY OTHERS INJURED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. It is reported by a private cable that thirteen of the Eighth Contingent have been killed and many others injured by a railway accident.
GOVERNMENT RECEIVED NO INFORMATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Wellington, last night. The Government has received no information regarding tho reported railway accident, in which the Eighth Contingent are said to have suffered such heavy loss of life. Sir J. G. Ward has, however, cabled to Capetown for particulars of the disaster.
A CONFIRMATORY MESSAGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. It is understood that the Governor has received a cable confirming the rumors regarding the train disaster, in which some of the Eighth Contingent were killed and injured, but up to midnight the details were not obtainable.
Palmerston North, last night. The rumored disaster to the Eighth Contingent has caused great consternation here, as many members of that body enlisted in Palmerston North.
