Mr Rhodes aspired to create a great society, copied in regard to organisation from tbe Jesuits, with a view to securing vast bequests to be applied to tho realisation of his main ideal of race unity and ultimate federation of England and America, securing the government of tho world in peace for all eternity. Mean- *■ while he recommends freetrade to bo fought for if necessary by British retaliatory tariffs destined to convert the present ecouomie opponents, including America, into friends. His documents are idealistic beyond comprehension. Au impressive service was held in St. Paul s on the occasion of Mr Rhodes’ funeral. The King and Prince of Wales were represented. A vast congregation attended, including tho Lord-Mayor and Ageuts-General. AN IMPRESSIVE SCENE.

Capetown, April 11. There wxs a picturesquo procession on tho hills and gorges of the Matoppos. Rhodes’ grave was cut in tho rock on the summit of a steep kopje. Twelve oxen finally drew tho coffin to the grave-side. Tho Bishop of Mashonaland consecrated the grave and officiated at the burial. A thousand whites and two thousand natives witnessed the obsequies.
