AUCKLAND NEWS.

GOVERNOR’S PARTY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, last night. The Governor, accompanied by Captain Alexander and Captain Boscawen, A.D.C., returned an official visit to the Admiral on board the flagship Royal Arthur to-day. The Countess of Ranfurly, accompanied by Ladies Constance and Eileen Knox, Miss Allan Richmond, and the Hon. H. .0. Butler, Hon. A.D.C., of Wellington, arrived from Wairarapa this morning, and were met at Onehuuga by Captain Alexander, proceeding direct to Government House. STATUE COMMITTEE. Mr W. J. Speight, Secretary of the Grey’ Statue Committee, has received from Mr Williamson, sculptor, photographs of models of the Grey Statue. The figure and head are represented in three positions, and the effect in every instance is most striking and graceful. Mr Williamson has given effect to a suggestion made by the committee for an alteration of the original model, the result being to greatly improve the likeness. The designs will be submitted to the meeting of the committee to-morrow for final consideration. TENTH CONTINGENT.

W. A. Craig, of the Fourth Contingent, has received a commission in the Tenth Contingent, and left for South this afternoon. The Rev. S. Hawthorne, ofDevonport, has received a commission as Anglican Chaplain in the Tenth Contingent, and leaves for Wellington tomorrow.
