AN ENQUIRY.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, last night. With reference to the statement made by cattle-men on the steamer Kumara concerning the drowning of a seaman named Plunkett, Captains Reid and Adamson, on behalf of the Board of Trade, have taken the evidence of the crew, and examined the boats and fittings, and report that everything was in perfect order ; that when Plunkett fell overboard the ship was immediately stopped, the boat lowered, and every possible search made ; that the cattle-men were not on deck until the captain had recalled the boat after it had been away about an hour. There had boen friction between the oaptain and cattle-men on the voyage.
| The captain did not inform the newspaper representatives of the death whon the vessel arrived in port, and therefore the enquiry was desirable. The Kumara had a death on the voyage and a deatli in port.]
