HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS

(By Telegraph). NAPIER, last night. Sir Joseph Ward lias received the following cables of congratulations on, the completion of the first section of the Pacific cable to Doubtless Bay : “ I return you my grateful thanks for your kind message, and heartly reciprocate your congratulations on the auspicious event, the completion of which will do so much towards more closely uniting the interests of Aus-' tralia and' New Zealand with those of the Mother Country.—Hopetoun, Go-vernor-General.”

London, Mar. 26. Lord Londonderry thanks Sir Joseph Ward for the telegram announcing the completion of the first section of the. Pacific cable, which lie trusts will have the good results anticipated “ Many thanks for your cable and warm congratulations on the completion of the cable between New Zealand, Norfolk Island, and Australia, also your good wishes for tile completion of the cable to Vancouver, which I trust will he an accomplished fact by the end of the year, and will unite Canada and New Zealand with Australia.—John See, Premier, Sydney, March 27.”
