In compliance with the Department s circular on the subject, the Wellington Education Board has served sewing teachers in its employ with notice o dismissal. At a meeting of the Board to-day several members expressed the opinion that a very grave wrong was being indicted on the community by Die Department’s action- The Chairman said that as recent legislation had reduced Die Board’s functions to skeleton control, it was apparently futile to oiler any protest. The Premier left by train this afternoon en route to Gisborne. The Public Works Department states that a beginning lias been made with the laying of rails and beams on the Makohine viaduct.
