SALVATION ARMY WORK.

COMPLETE VINDICATION BY LABOR COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, last night. In oonscquence of allegations of sweating being made against the authorities of tho Christchurch Salvation Army Home of sweating the inmates of the Canterbury Trades and Labor Council appointed a committee to investigate the management of the Prison Gate Brigade Home and Female Refuge at St. Albans. The committee were given every facility to inspect tho Home and make enquiry, and they were convinced that the charges of sweating wero entirely without foundation. There was no under cutting in the sale of articles manufactured or work done by the inmates of the Homes, all being disposed of at current market rates. The Homes were not self-supporting, and had to be helped from head quarters, and it was cruel to suggest that either of them existed for the purpose of creating billets for officials. The committee were impressed by the energy and self-sacrifice and experience expended in the management, and had nothing but praise for the devoted men and women who could take such a keen and intelligent intorest in the management, without sacrificing the kindly, sympathetic side of their nature. They did not think, however, that any religious body should bo allowed to shoulder the responsibility which rightly belonged to the St jte.
