THE PREMIER EXPLAINS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. The Star’s New Plymouth correspondent wires that the Premier emphatically denies tho accuracy of the following statement in the report of an interview with the Auokland Mininsters’ Association: — “ The Premier Baid he;had to acknowledge that the Government erred in not sending chaplains sooner, but chaplains would go with all future contingents.” What the Premier did say was that contingents prior to the Eighth not being comploto columns, chaplains were not allowed under military regulations. As soon as the opportunity offered of sending chaplains it was embraced by the sending of _one with the Eighth, and in compliance with a request to Lord Kitohener, he as a favor was allowed two chaplains with the Ninth.
