A YOUTH SHOT.
A lad named Andrew Jackson, son of Mr A. Jackson, carpenter of Kaiti, was shooting with a pea rifle round the Kaiti beach with other lads yesterday after-
noon. One of the boys, when it came to his turn to have a shot with the gun, was in the act of loading it, when by some means the gun went off, and the bullet entered Jackson’s leg just below the knee. The injured lad was conveyed to the hospital, suffering great pain. The injured youth is 15 or 16 years of age. It is believed that the reason the gun went off unexpectedly was that the lads had been firing with such rapidity that the nfle became too hot, and thus
the charge went off prematurely. The rifle had been handed to Albert MorroWi who had been loading it when the accident occurred. The wound on the injured lad’s leg is very small on the exterior where the bullet entered the flesh. The bullet is small, about the thickness of a pea, but about an eighth of an inch in length. When the accident occurred the injured lad was unable to walk, and word being sent to his home Mr Harry Jackson rode round and conveyed the sufferer round the beach on horseback.
