SMALL-POX SCARE.
LA.DY SENT TO PLAGUE HOSPITAL [by TELEGBAPH —PEES 3 ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, last night. A saloon lady passenger on the Monowai, which arrived yesterday morning from Lyttelton, was suspected to be suffering from small-pox. It is by no means certain that it is a case of small-pox, but the Health Department appears to have deemed it advisable to take the safest course, and had the passenger removed to the plague hospital, where her husband was also taken. The patient is a through traveller from England. Except for cases
I of fever the present is the first that has been taken to the plague hospital. The ease not having been ,finally diagnosed a certain amount of reticence is being observed. The Health Department has had the steamer fumigated, and taken all other precautionary measures deemed necessary. Later.—ln reference to the supposed 1 small-pox case the Chief Health Officer > this afternoon said that no information re- 1 garding the patient could be given until £ to-morrow. 1
