POLO TOURNAMENT.
SOME EXCITING GAMES. REGRETTABLE ACCIDENT, By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. The weather continued fine for the Polo Tournament to-day, although towards the close of the games light rain fell. Great interest was taken in the Hawke’s Bay and Mauawatu No. 1 match in the second rouud of the Saville Cup contest. This game was particularly fast and exciting up to the end of the fifth spell, when a regrettable accident occurred. The horse of McKenzie, of Hawke’s Bay, feu and rolled on him through collison with an opposing player. McKenzio was unconscious for some time, but is now progressing favorably. The accident terminated the game, Manawatu winning by three goals to two. The game throughout was one of the olosest and best-contested that has over yet taken place on the grounds. Manawatu, if anything, had tho best of the play, forcing, their opponents down on several occasions. The Hawke’s Bay ponies were undoubtedly faster than those of the local players. Goals were scored by McKenzio aud Russell for Hawke’s Bay, and A. Abraham (2) and Strang (1) for Manawatu. Excellent form was shown by the playors. Both teams, McKenzie in particular, playing splendidly when the accident occurred.
The second game, Manawatu No. 2 v. Mangatera, for tho Handicap Cup, was won by Mangatera by 10 goals to 2, including a handicap of 3 goals.
