WANGANUI BAND,

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wanganui, last night Tho Wanganui Garrison Band returned to town to-day, bringing with them the Besson Shield and Baton. They were accorded a most enthusiastic reception. AN INQUEST.

Tho inquest into the death of Robert Christie commenced to-day. Christie’s body was found in the river on Sunday morning. One boot was missing, and the other boot was on the wrong foot. He came to town the day before, and he is supposed to have had 46 or 48 in his possession, also a cheque for 45. As far as can be ascertained deceased did not spend any money, yet when the body was found only a few shillings were found on it. The inquest was adjourned till Wednesday to enable the police to trace the cheque. -
