Carpenters and Joiners’ Union
At a largely-attended meetingof carpenters, held on Saturday night, everything being in readiness to start a union, it was proposed by Mr Mathews, and carried unan.mously, that the Auckland secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners be asked to come and start a branch here. Mr Maxtcd not wishing to continue the secretaryship, Mr Catton was voted to the position. Several new mem bers were proposed during the evening, and paid their initiation fees. A vote of thanks to the chairman, Mr Mathews, of Patutahi, for presiding, terminated a very successful meeting.
