STOCK SALE.
MESSRS WILLIAMS AND KETTLE’S REPORT.
Messrs Williams and Kettle report that at their sale at Matawhoro yards yesterday there was a large attendance, and the yards wero filled to their fullest capacity with stock. The sale was conducted by Mr A. F. Kennedy. The firm reports • Wo offered about 8000 sheep and 300 head of cattle. For some unaccountable reason, the bidding was not as - spirited as at former sales, but most ot the lines offered were quitted at satisfactory prices before the close of the day. Sheep: Tho offering in sheep consisted mostly of weaners and old ewes, which were not readily taken by buyers. The prices ran for 2-tooth ewes and wethers up to 9s 3d for really good sorts, and down to 8s for poorer descriptions of the ' same class. Full-mouth ewes brought up to 5s 9d, whilst aged ewes made from Is to 2s fid. Lambs made up to os for good sorts, whilst crawlers ' were sold as low as
ninepence each. Rams: A large number of rams were disposed of, the bulk of the offering being in Lincolns, which made up to a guinea to 1J guineas for well-bred 2-tooth and- 4tooth, whilst full-mouth rams were sold as low as 10s each. A nico line of English Leicester rains were offered, but failed to
reach the reserve. „ . Cattle : -There was an excellent ottering of forward stores, which made up to £5 io s 6d for three-year-olds in fair condition ■ 2 to 2r> year-old steers made up to £4 10s, and youDg cattle made up to no each for 12-month old stock. A very nice line of polled Angus beef, consisting of two steers and a i cow,. bred by -J Mr Ewen Cameron, made A-0 ior the - narcel. These were an exceptionally good offering, and reflected great credit on the grower. After keen competition, they were purchased by Mr A. L. Bsllerby, and their destination was announced as the - - freezing works,
The sale commenced at 10.30, with the cattle, and after a short adjournment for luncheon was immediately resumed, and continued until nearly six o’clock in the evening. A few showers were experienced, but there was not sufficient rain to interfere with the selling. Our next sale will bo held on Thursday, the 27th inst., at the Matawhero yards.
