PERSONAL.
Mr James Chvisp, a popular member of I the Gisborne City Band, took part in the j solo competition at the Band Contest at j Xew Plymouth. There were forty cornI petitors, and Mr Chrisp tied with another ! competitor for seventh place, securing 72 points out of a possible eighty. Lieutenant Bax, who left Wairca to fulfil the position of assistant dispenser to Surgeon-Major Milne-Thompson, has been appointed sergeant in the Ninth Contingent, his position as dispenser being filled before he arrived in Dunedin. Mr W. A. Barton, S.M., returned from the Coast last evening. )
