THE WOOL SALES

London, March 12. The wool sales opened strong, with a good demand, and prices are from par to 71 per cent, in advance. Lead imports are 17,020 tons —Australian 8939 ; exports, 8412. Copper, spot, is at 54,\; three months, 112. Tallow : 1100 casks offered and 475 sold, prices being unchanged. A cargo of Victorian wheat sold at 29s lOld. RISE IX CROSSBRED WOOL. By Ttlegraph—Pi ess Association—Copyright London, March 18. Balme, Buxton, and Jacomb’s joint catalogue was 10,206 bales, good selection. There was a largo attendance from all quarters. There was brisk general competition, Homo buyers securing the bulk. Compared with the February rates, merinos were from par to tiveper cent, higher. Crossbreds were five to seven and a half per cent, higher, mediums showing the greatest appreciation.
