CANTERBURY RAM FAIR.
POOR SALES
(Per Press Associatu.n.) CHRISTCHURCI-I, last night.
The annual ram fair of the Canterbury A. and P. Association opened to-day. ' Although the entries were considerably below those of last year, the supply prox’cd beyond the demand, owing doubtless to many large sales which had been made privately on account of the late date at xviiich the
fair was fixed. Shropshire Downs were a drug on lire market, mostly .selling at under two guineas each. Three-quarter and half-breds were only barely represented. There were very few Lincolns, and sales were only effected at one to two guineas. Border Leicester were xvell represented, but only brought from one to three guineas. The sale of English Leicester's, of which there is a large entry, was about half through when the work was closed for the day, and these met a slightly better demand, the top price being 161 guineas ; but most of those offered sold at under three guineas. •A large 11 umber of sheep were withdrawn at auction, many of which were taken privately afterwards.
