STATE FRUIT FARM.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, last night. A large number of representative fruitgrowers? by invitation from Mr Clifton, visited the Government experimenta station at Wairangi yesterday. A general opinion was expressed that the work done was of great value to the district. Grapes are growing admirably in tho open, in spite of the fact that the soil is the poorest in the North. Excellent claret was sampled, made from last year s crop. Signor Bragato expressed the opinion that from £IOO to £l5O per annum could be made from grape growing in the open. The Government has acquired the adjoining area of 200 ucres at los an acre to plant grapes which havo proved suitable to the district, and then to cut it up for small settlement, thus utilising hitherto useless land, not even Jcapablc of carrying grass. Last season 14,000 cuttings of grapes were distributed from Vy airangi station.
