PUBLIC HEALTH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. It is considered by tho Public Health Department that under the license system there will be no difficulty in keeping in touch for the required length of time with passengers who arrive in New Zealand from infected ports. Passengers who neglect to report themselves as directed will receive attention from the police. SUDDEN DEATH. William McMillan, laborer, aged 02 years, employed in tho Government railway stores, died suddenly to-day. The medical evidence at the inquest showed that his demise was duo to hemorrhageon the brain.

A NEW TRIAL. In Banco to-day tho Ciiief Justice ordered a new trial in tho case of Bullock v. Austiee, in which plaintiff was admittedly injured by an act of defendant. Ho had been awarded one shilling damages by the jury. Counsel argued that the jury having found the plaintiff entitled to a verdict should have awarded adequate damages. His Honor concurred that under tho circumstances one shilling was insufficient. MESSAGE TO GOVERNOR. The Governor has received the following cable from Capetown, dated 9th inst : “The following New Zealand Mounted Infantry have been invalided : 461fi Dcviare, 3291 Warwick, 3367 Fraser, 3293 Walker, 3830 Cooper, 3613 Gilbert, all of the Seventh ; 4072 Considine, suffering from gun-shot wounds.”
