SMASH UP OF VEHICLES

ACCIDENT TU MR. AND DIRS MOSSMAN AND OTHERS. (Per Press association.) NA.PIEK, last night. A setious trap accident occurred at Hastings this evening. A trap belonging to Mr J. McNiven, and driven oy an employe, was proceeding along i he Kaiamu road, when the horse ran into a trap driven by Mr H. Hawthorne, containing a lady and child, who were thrown out and somowhat badly hurt.

The horse attached to Hawthorne’s trap being startled by the collision, kicked ilimseif citar, and bolted, running into and smashing a trap driven i-y Mr 0. McLeod, and continuing It ran into another trap driven by Mr If. A. Mossman, and also containing Mrs Mossman, sen., and a child. This [ trap was also smashed, and 'its occupants thrown out, the child sustaining concussion of the brain. The horse which had been attached to Hawthorne’s trap having broken its leg in its last collision, had to be destroyed i.y Constable Butler. As the child is still unconscious, it is impossible to say at present how serious the injury who sustained concussion of the brain is likely to be.
