Lord Kitchener reports that the Australians’ effective fire is shown by the captured cattle, a large proportion of which were wounded. The order of the columns east and west was: Bawlinsou s. Nixon's, Byug’s, and Keir’s. The wounded New Zealanders are doing well. The other casualties were one killed and four men wounded.
General Bawlinson gave the surrounded Boers an hour’s armistice to decide whether to surrender or tight. Four hundred and fifty yielded, including John Vessels, a prominent leader. A reserve squadron of Seventh Dragoon Guards at Aldershot, also a squadron of Sixteenth Lancers, have been warned to hold themselves in readiness to embark for South Africa.
Several Griqualand West farmers received sentences of four and three years’ imprisonment for acting as Boer officials. Colleton’s Constabulary surprised a laager at Batlnroville on the 19th, and captured 16, including Landrost Rodemeyer. They also captured seven subsequently. Commandant Scheepers’ father has surrendered at Wondcrfontein.
Columns in the Eicksburg district cap tured ten Boers with GOOD cattle.
