Eru Woodbine Johnson, a Gisborne boy at College at Wanganui, distinguished himself at the swimming championship meeting by winning the Maiden Race from scratch, the District Race, with osec. start, and coming in third in the Open 100 Yards Handicap, in which there were 23 starters, and he was beaten only by the Queensland and New Zealand champions.

Miss Winifred Austin, the leading [ady of the Hawtrey Company, at present touring New Zealand, is a niece of Mr Alfred Austin, Poet Laureate of England. Mr A. AY. Thomson, for many years manager of the Union Bank of Australia in Auckland, and President of the Auckland Bowling Club is at present visiting Gisborne.
