Colonel Vilonel, with 15002 National Scouts, actuated by a patriotic desire to end the criminal struggle, express a determination to capture DeWet and Stcyn. Six hundred Boers, driving a herd of cattle, rushed the outposts at Pottrasburg an Sunday night. A number escaped, abandoning everything. Fifteen were killed and six wounded. The New- Zealanders displayed the greatest gallantry | on the occasion. DeWet’s native cattle-drivers are deserting wholesale. To the end of November, the Cape furnished 11,300 recruits for the Boers. Woodhouse, Merritnan’s seat in Parliament, supplying 1027, Aliwal 2256, Barkley East 945. The districts representing the Afrikander Bond averaged three rebels to every one in districts represented by progressives. Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Leslie Rundlc is returning to England from South Africa. Mr Copeland, the New South Wales Agent-General, interviewed, said in order to ensure against unsuitable remounts, the War Office ought to contract with Australian breeders for a reasonable period, instead of greatly neglecting the inexhaustible sources of supply. Boers from another district suddenly appearing south-west of Klerksdorp, captured Colonel Vondonop's empty Wolmaranstad convoy, which was being escorted by the Fifth Battalion of Yeomanry, and three companies of the Northumberland Fusiliers, with two guns. The fighting was severe. The enemy retired, pursued. The Boors tried to cross the blockhouse lino eastwards of Tatl'elkop. During the night heavy rain falling, some Boers succeeded after a number of casualties.
